Middlesex to host five-way meet Wednesday at SCW

Several members of Middlesex High School’s cross country team competed in the Albert E. Dormer Newport News Invitational at Newport News Park on Saturday. There were three levels — A,B and C — the Chargers competed in B.

Out in front for the MHS girl runners was Makayla Moore, who placed third with her 25 minute, 14 second time in the 5K (3.1 mile) race. The next best MHS girl finisher was Sophia Koontz, who placed 10th at 27:27:38.

Gunnar Marston was the top finisher for the MHS boys, finishing ninth with a 20:08.59 time, while Charger Christopher Butler finished 17th at 21:28:42.

Other MHS finishers included Matthew Lowe, 44th, 27:28:52; Cody Walsh, 45th, 27:34:58; Bethany Withers, no place listed, 33:31; and Elsie Koontz, 25th, 37:48:47.

MHS is using St. Clare Walker Middle School as the location for its home meets this year and has one scheduled there at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Chargers are hosting Essex, West Point, Rappahannock and King William.
