Kingston, Urbanna resident Vicki Satterwhite’s 21-months-old Bernese mountain dog, returned to the ring this past weekend at the Durham Kennel Club Dog Show in Raleigh, N.C. He had a great showing and captured the Best of Winners award on Saturday, bringing him one point closer to his American Kennel Club (AKC) Championship status.
“Kingston achieved his United Kennel Club (UKC) Championship status on April 21 and was attacked by another dog coming out of the ring the very next day, his first day competing as a champion,” Satterwhite said in an email to the Sentinel. “The dog was kicked out of the UKC for life, and the owner repaid me for vet bills, but the incident still haunts me.”
Satterwhite continued, “Kingston is handled in the ring by his breeder-handler, Wendy Keene, who does an exceptional job with him. We call her Mama Wendy, and he adores her. I think he listens to her a little better than to me, which is why he won the Best Owner-Handled award in his group this past weekend in Raleigh.”
