The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger football team will open its 2023 season on Friday, Sept. 1, against the Northumberland Indians. The Chargers are coming off a 3-7 win-loss record last year.

The Chargers are a young team as MHS has only two seniors on the squad this year and one of them did not play last year. Malik Dandy and Rowan Anderson are the two seniors on the team.

Dandy will be playing tight end on offense and defensive end on defense. “Malik brings leadership and experience to us,” said head coach Mark Bowen. “We have two seniors and we are going to depend on them for a lot of leadership.”

“Rowan is a man among boys out there,” said Bowen. “He is a swag player with bold self assurance on the field. He is a wrestler turned football player.” Anderson is one of the top MHS wrestlers on the Chargers wrestling team.

Bowen said Anderson is going to have to fill the “big shoes” of Cameron Byers, who as a sophomore was MHS’s top defensive player last season. Byers transferred to Christchurch School this year.

Cameron Lambert is returning at quarterback. “Cameron brings a lot of athleticism to the game for us,” said Bowen. “He has an understanding of the game and with his experience at the position from last year he will be even more effective…”
