Hartfield’s Macey White brought home national honors this past weekend from the United States Croquet Association Nine-Wicket Nationals in Denver, Colorado. Top players from all over the U.S. gathered in Denver last week to contend for the coveted title as best Nine-Wicket croquet player in the United States.
Championships were conducted in both singles and doubles and White went undefeated in singles during the round-robin and entered the playoffs as the number one seed. White swept through the playoff without losing a single game and defeated Doug Moore from New York City to win. White also played doubles, and with his partner, John Warlick, from West Palm Beach, Fla., White won the doubles championship also.
In the U.S., there are four types of croquet played competitively. Nine-Wicket is the only one played on long grass and is most similar to the backyard game, but with better equipment, much tighter hoops, and challenging rules…
