Sentencing in indecent liberties, stalking cases set for November

Five-year prison term possible

Former Middlesex High School Resource Officer Clayton Michael Colley pleaded guilty on Aug. 21 in Middlesex County Circuit Court to a felony of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship; and a misdemeanor for stalking.

During the Aug. 21 hearing, Middlesex Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Shaw asked Colley several questions about his plea. Judge Shaw asked Colley if he realized he will be required to register with the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Colley answered “yes.”

Judge Shaw found Colley guilty and ordered a pre-sentencing report. Sentencing is set for Nov. 1. Colley remains free on bond.

Colley is facing up to five years for the indecent liberties count and up to 12 months and a $2,500 fine for stalking.

The indecent liberties count stems from an Oct. 12, 2021 incident, and the stalking began Aug. 25, 2021, according to court documents.
