William Sheldon Blake, 89, of Wake peacefully went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023.
Sheldon was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Maxine; his parents, Emmett and Susie; brother, Franklin; and sister, Shirley.
Sheldon is survived by his companion, Doris Norton; two sons, Donald (Amy) and Wayne (Angela). He was also Papa to his four grandchildren, Vail, Chris (Stephanie), Kamryn and Kristin. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Maxyne and Kylan; brother, John (Janet); and numerous nieces and nephews. He also left behind his little dog, Lucy, who was his sidekick.
Sheldon was a retired mechanic from Chesapeake Corporation in West Point. He served in the Army National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department.
Those that knew Sheldon quickly found out that he didn’t know many strangers. He was humble and helped many in need. He also had a mischievous nature about him that would make you laugh, and most of the time had a good story to tell. He loved to work in his garden, attend car racing events, play gospel music, and spend time with his family.
The memorial service was 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church. All friends and family were welcomed. The family received friends one hour before the service.
