Jason Ware, 46, of Saluda was killed in a car crash Friday morning on his way to work at the Chesterfield County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (CFEMS) “Chester Fire Station,” where he served as a captain.
Ware was killed in a head-on collision on Lewis B. Puller Memorial Highway (Route 33) in King & Queen County about 6 a.m., just before entering the West Point/Mattaponi River Bridge. An 18-year-old driver has been charged with reckless driving in the case. A 2008 Mercedes GL450 driven by Aveon D. Santos of Aylett was traveling east on the highway when it crossed the center line and struck Ware who was driving west bound in a 2015 Ford Focus.
A Middlesex High School graduate and a former Upper Middlesex County (Water View) Volunteer Fire Department member, Ware was a 20-year veteran of CFEMS. After graduating from Chesterfield Recruit School #33 he served in multiple station assignments throughout the county.
