Middlesex County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz informed the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Aug. 1, that the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has delayed the paving of the overflow parking grass lot at Middlesex Elementary School (MES).

The project is to be paid for with Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) federal COVID-19 funds that has to be spent by September “next month,” said Dr. Seitz.

Saluda District Supervisor Don Harris asked if DEQ officials were aware of the time urgency involved. “Yes, DEQ is aware of that and Bay Design Group is working with them to come up with a solution before the deadline,” said Dr. Seitz.

Supervisor Harris asked, “Is there any guess as to when you can start?”

“No!” Supt. Seitz said. “We had hoped to have it all done before school opens in three weeks. What we do know is that it is not going happen.”
