Mary Bush Shipko, aviation pioneer and author, will present “Women and Aviation in the 20th Century,” an exciting and fun look at women’s aviation history from the beginning, including highlights from each decade. The Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society presentation is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Pilot House Inn restaurant in Topping.
During her presentation, Shipko will share the tremendous advancements and achievements for women in the field and also her own aviation journey as one of the first women airline pilots in the country.
Shipko has written three books, “Aviatrix,” her memoir; “Daring Mary, Aviation Pioneer,” her children’s book; and “the Firsts: Women Pilots and How They Changed the Airlines,” a STEM book for ages 12 and older. She speaks around the country, inspiring young women to become airline pilots.
Everyone interested in aviation is invited to attend the presentation and bring a friend. The aero group meets the third Thursday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Pilot House.
