The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system has hired a new executive director, Aaron J. Moore, to fill the shoes of Carrie Dos Santos, who left the MCPL to take on a position at Rappahannock Community College.
Moore brings a musical/literature background to the job of overseeing both the Deltaville and Urbanna branches of MCPL. (Tom Samuel continues as manager of the Deltaville branch.) Born in Salem, Ohio, Moore in his late 20s enrolled in the Hartford Conservatory in Hartford, Conn., where he studied music.
He specialized in playing the Chapman Stick, a 10-stringed electric musical instrument devised by Emmett Chapman in the early 1970s. After music school, Moore pursued a music career and at the same time worked a full-time job for Borders Books.
Over the years he volunteered at several libraries and this instilled in him a love and understanding of the importance of community libraries. “The library is an important part of a community and I hope to bring some new, different and exciting programs to the system,” he said.
