Lower K&Q Baptist Church to break ground Sunday for new building at site of fire

Flames consume the 101-year-old Lower King and Queen Baptist Church in Dragonville on Aug. 13, 2021. Ironically, fire also destroyed the church’s earlier sanctuary on the site in 1919. Church furniture rescued from the 1919 fire was lost in the 2021 fire. (Lower King and Queen Baptist Church Facebook page)

Congregants of Lower King and Queen Baptist Church lost their 101-year-old Dragonville house of worship in an unexplained fire on Aug. 13, 2021. They have been temporarily having Sunday services in the King and Queen Woman’s Club building at King and Queen Courthouse and other locations. That is expected to change in coming months when Lower King and Queen Baptist builds a new home on the 204 Timber Branch Road site where its previous church stood. Ground breaking is set for 11 a.m. this Sunday, July 23. The rain date is set for 11 a.m. Sunday, July 30. Attendees should bring a chair.

Contributions still needed

The church still needs contributions to its building fund to make the new church a reality. Donors should mail checks to Lower King and Queen Baptist Church, C/O Treasurer T.O. Longest Jr., P.O. Box 126, King and Queen C.H., VA 23085. Checks should include “Building Fund” on the memo line.
