Urbanna, Deltaville each set to offer big fireworks displays

The “Urbanna Cabana” was judged most creative in the 2022 Urbanna Independence Day-themed boat parade. The entry was created on the pontoon boat of Phil and Louise Friday. These entrants also won most creative in the 2021 parade and are expected to seek a “three-peat” by winning again this year. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)

Urbanna fireworks, other fun

Urbanna’s Independence Day-themed celebration is set for Friday, June 30, at the Urbanna Town Marina on Urbanna Creek. Activities begin at Urbanna marina at 5 p.m.

Music will be provided by Kevin Gentry and disc jockey Wayne Jessie. Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department volunteers will serve food.

The annual boat parade begins with participants gathering at Urbanna bridge at 6:30 p.m. They will then parade past the marina at 7 p.m.

Applications for the boat parade are available. Call the town marina at 804-758-5440 or the town office at 804-758-2613.

Fireworks will fill the sky shortly after dusk around 9 p.m. Fare-free “Pearl,” Urbanna’s trolley-style mini bus, will run until 10 p.m.

Starting at 5 p.m. on June 30, Virginia Street will be closed to vehicles from Cross Street to the town marina.

Deltaville fireworks

Deltaville will offer a community fireworks display this year. The display is tentatively set for around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Deltaville Ballpark. It will follow the 6 p.m. Deltaville Deltas versus Chesapeake Sharks baseball game at the ballpark.

“The fireworks will be shot from the outfield of Deltaville Ballpark, and viewable from all around the ballpark and Deltaville Community Association (DCA) park area,” said Stephen Blue, one of the event’s organizers.

Donations to offset the cost of the fireworks can be made at Hurd’s True Value Hardware store in Deltaville. A GoFundMe page has also been set up or you can mail a check to the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) at P.O. Box 211, Deltaville, VA 23043 with “Fireworks” in the memo. The DCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
