The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) continued to table action on reaching an agreement with Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) on selling HRSD approximately one half acre of land on St. Clare Walker (SCW) Middle School property at Locust Hill.
At the June 12 MCSB meeting, the board packet provided an action item that stated, “the superintendent recommends that the school board approve the proposal and authorize the superintendent to execute (with HRSD) the contract.” The contract is for the sale of the property to HRSD.
Middlesex County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz indicated there were still a few issues between the school board and HRSD that needed to be resolved by the school board attorney and HRSD.
“We are very close to coming to an agreement,” said Dr. Seitz. “We want to make sure that this will in no way have a negative impact on the school.”
The original proposed contract called for HRSD paying the school system $4,200 for the property and the MCSB paying for the cost of its own attorney fees. At an April school board meeting, the board indicated HRSD should pay for attorney fees and questioned whether the price was enough.
