Floyd “Sonny” David Taylor

Floyd “Sonny” David Taylor, 83, of Topping, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 17, 2023.

He is survived by his son, Michael A. Taylor (Jackie); daughter, Wanda T. Lewter (Richard); and daughter-in-law, Etta M. Taylor.

PaPa to his five grandchildren, Brittany T. Glenn (William), Justin M. Taylor (Hannelore), Chelsea L. Hunt (Allen), Shelby L. Purcell (John), and Lillian M. Taylor; and his four great-grandchildren, William Earl Glenn, V, Skylar E. Hunt, Lofton R. Hunt, Emily Charlotte Taylor and number five, Jay, later this year.  He is also survived by his two sisters, Dorothy T. Ashley and Ann T. Major (Mercer); and a sister-in-law, Clara “Sissy” Martin.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd was predeceased by his son, David W. Taylor; and his wife of 62 years, Hilda “Butch” Colley Taylor.

He was a faithful member, trustee and deacon of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was a 60-plus year member of County Line Hunt Club in King and Queen County.  He retired after 30-plus years from Chesapeake Corporation in West Point as a pipefitter.

He loved to travel, hunt, fish, crab, work in their garden, attend sporting events and spend time with his family. A special thanks to Pat Walden, Claire Weis, and Shawnell Senegal for the loving care that they gave Floyd.

A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, and interment will follow. The family will receive friends two hours before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church, (funeral hospitality fund) P.O. Box 138, Topping, VA 23169.
