The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger baseball team lost in the semifinals of the Virginia Class 1 baseball tournament in Salem Friday as MHS fell to eventual state champs Lebanon High School, 4-1.
Against Lebanon, Patrick Larson pitched five innings and gave up four hits, struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run. P. Larson also provided support with the stick as he had one hit and knocked in the only run of the game for MHS.
Kaden Hunley pitched one inning, gave up two hits, struck out two batters and gave up one earned run. Hunley also provided some offense as he got one of only three hits for the Chargers in the game. Chris Withers got the other MHS hit.
“Lebanon ended up winning the state championship,” said MHS Head Coach John Robins.
“We hung right in the game but just came up a little short. It was very exciting playing in a minor league stadium for the boys. A great ride and experience for the team.”
The state tournament was played at Salem Memorial Stadium on the Salem Red Sox field.
