The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity softball team’s 2023 season came to an end on May 30 in the Region A semifinals. The undefeated Rappahannock Raiders had their way against the Lady Chargers, winning 20-2. Middlesex would be held to only one hit in the contest, a double by Kayleigh Moye in the fifth inning. Rappahannock would go on to win the regional championship over Chincoteague.
The Chargers finished the season with an overall record of 13-8, fourth in Region A, and second place at 7-3 in the Tidewater District. “Overall it was a very successful season for the team,” said MHS Assistant Coach Chucky Oliver. “Five of our eight losses were to King William, which is a Division 2 school, and to Rappahannock who is the number one ranked team in the state.”
The Lady Chargers will lose three seniors to graduation this year, Courtney Harrow, Mary Isbell and Alyssa Mitchem. “They will be hard to replace,” said Oliver. “But we should also return 7 starters next year, so the future looks bright for the program.”

Christchurch to add a softball program

The Seahorse girls inaugural softball season will be spring 2024.
Glenn Harper, CCS head girls basketball coach, is set to be an assistant coach. The school is currently conducting a search for a head coach.
