The Middlesex County Kiwanis Club has named Makayla Seamster as its 2023 Teenager of the Year. The award recognizes a Middlesex teen who has demonstrated dedication to the Kiwanis ideals of community service and personally achieved superior academic achievement, and whose leadership has inspired others to make a positive difference in the community.
Makayla has served in various leadership capacities while a student at Middlesex High School (MHS), including as president of the Key Club during her senior year. Since her sophomore year she has participated in the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School. Makayla has earned honors including the All-A Honor Roll, the Directors List Honor Roll for the Governor’s School, and the Spanish Honor Society.
Her community service has included service for the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, fundraisers for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation totaling $1,450, and many service hours in conjunction with the MHS Key Club. Makayla has also played in the MHS marching band and as a member of the MHS varsity girls tennis team.
Middlesex Kiwanians congratulated Makayla and have nominated her for consideration in the regional Kiwanis Teenager of the Year competition.
