NAACP Middlesex Branch President Dawn Moore invites everyone to attend a 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, presentation at Immanuel Baptist Church at 327 Town Bridge Road in Saluda. The church presentation will feature Bay Aging Vice President of Advocacy Resources Lisa Walker, who will discuss services and programs for individuals and caregivers, as well as information to better understand Medicare, financial resources and tips to help save money, and more. For information, call or text 804-210-6051.

The Class of 2023 Middlesex High School (MHS) Baccalaureate is set for 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Lebanon Baptist Church in Saluda, according to the MHS Facebook page. Seniors who plan on attending should wear their caps and gowns.


Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC) at 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, invites everyone to join them for worship this Sunday when Pastor Yosub’s sermon will be “Casting Your Cares.” All are welcome to join them 5-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday for a time of group prayer.

The Women of Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Baptist Church located at 100 Flats Road in Urbanna and the members of Women of Worth (WOW) will host the annual women’s weekend event Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21. At 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, is the Women’s Tea. Ladies, you are invited to wear your pretty Sunday dress with your best hat, scarf, and gloves to the tea. Enjoy a variety of tea flavors, along with finger sandwiches, chicken and a variety of “veggies” and desserts. The guest speaker will be Prophet Michelle Webster.

At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, the Women’s Weekend events continue. At 3 p.m. the Women of Worth will act out a skit portraying women in the Bible.

All are invited to attend. The members of Make-A-Way and Deliverance Full Gospel Baptist Church will celebrate the 24th church anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28. The guest speaker will be Bishop Carey Brown from Deeper Life Ministries Church along with his praise team and church  family from Hampton. Come out and enjoy the afternoon of singing and preaching.

You won’t want to miss Saluda Baptist Church (SBC) Movie Night, which is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the church at 960 General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Saluda. (Because of the Memorial Day weekend SBC is offering its monthly free movie showing a week early this month.)

Join the folks at SBC for free pizza, popcorn, drinks and a very inspiring movie, “More Than Chance,” which is based on a true story. It’s a story of a young girl who overcame lots of obstacles to achieve her dream.

Immanuel Baptist Church, Saluda, will celebrate annual Women’s Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 21. Minister Glendora Lane, of Gleaning Baptist Church, Gloucester, will deliver The Preached Word. Minister Barbara Foster, Gloucester, will serve as worship leader. All women are asked to wear pastel colors and a hat, if they so desire. Music is under the direction of Brother Leon Harris and masks are optional.

During the week starting Monday, June 19, Christ Church Parish in Saluda is offering a free fine arts camp. The camp is for rising fifth grade through rising eighth grade students. The week will involve many exciting activities focusing on art, music, and theater. Each camper will receive a special T-shirt and other items.

It will be a fun and educational week for everyone. The camp is offered completely free of charge. Parents only need to provide transportation. Please come and join them. If you are interested, please send an email at the email address listed below and a registration form will be sent.

The camp schedule is as follows:

  • • Monday-Friday, June 19-23 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (breakfast and lunch provided each day).
  • • Saturday, June 24 – 9-11 a.m. (breakfast and camp showcase).
  • • Sunday, June 25 – 9:30-11:30 a.m. (warm-up and church service).
  • • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (awards ceremony and picnic lunch for campers, their guests and church parishioners).

Old Church Methodist Church’s antique car show is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the church, which is located at 25614 The Trail (U.S. Route 14) in Mattaponi. The entry fee is a monetary donation to the church’s building fund. There will be trophies and prizes, as well as food, homemade ice cream and oldies music.
