Hardyville man dies after Jeep overturns along Gen. Puller Hwy.

A Cooks Corner crash claimed the life of a Hardyville man on Tuesday, May 2.

The man, Howard Leander Hollingsworth, 51, a resident of the 7700 block of Belle Aire Drive, was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler east on General Puller Highway (Route 33) when the Jeep ran onto the shoulder of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, reported Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police (VSP). The driver sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 12:04 a.m. in the 3000 block of General Puller Highway, just east of Union Park Road, according to the VSP. It is believed to be the first fatal crash in Middlesex County in 2023. There were two fatal crashes in Middlesex in 2022.
