Chargers fall to King William, 4-2
The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger varsity baseball team split in district play last week as MHS defeated the King and Queen Central’s Royal Tigers, 18-1, on Thursday, April 20, and lost to King William Cavaliers, 4-2, on Tuesday, April 18.
Against the Royal Tigers, Chris Withers was the winning pitcher. He pitched four innings, allowed three hits and struck out eight batters. Jackson Murray came on in relief for one inning and had three strikeouts.
Hudson McMinn paced the offense with two hits and five RBIs. Jonathan Oliver, Patrick Larson and Trey Fitchett had two hits apiece and Fitchett had two RBIs.
Patrick Larson pitched in the losing cause against the King William Cavaliers. He pitched five innings, gave up six hits, three earned runs and struck out nine batters. On offense Simon Larson and Fitchett had two hits apiece and Larson had an RBI.
The Chargers are currently ranked third in the region. Middlesex has two important games this week at MHS. The Chargers took on district foe Mathews Blue Devils on Tuesday at home (results were unavailable at press time). They take on another district foe, the West Point Pointers, at home today, Thursday, April 27. The game starts at 5 p.m.
