Hilda “Butch” Colley Taylor

Hilda “Butch” Colley Taylor, 82, of Topping, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 17, 2023.

She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Floyd “Sonny” D. Taylor; son, Michael A. Taylor (Jackie); daughter, Wanda T. Lewter (Richard); and daughter-in-law, Etta M. Taylor. She is MeMa to her five grandchildren, Brittany T. Glenn (William), Justin M. Taylor (Hannelore), Chelsea L. Hunt (Allen), Shelby L. Purcell (John), and Lillian M. Taylor; and her four great-grandchildren, William Earl Glenn, V, Skylar E. Hunt, Lofton R. Hunt, Emily Charlotte Taylor and number five later this year. She is also survived by her sister, Clara “Sissy” Martin; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy T. Ashley and Ann T. Major (Mercer).

Hilda was predeceased by her son, David W. Taylor.

She was a faithful member and deacon of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, where she taught the ages 4 and 5 preschool Sunday school class for 50-plus years. She was a substitute teacher for Middlesex County Public Schools for more than 20 years and delivered flowers for River Birch Florist for more than 10 years.

The family expresses its appreciation to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for its support and care. A special thanks to Pat Walden, Claire Weil, Shawnell Senegal, Cindy Powers and Shauna Deagle for the loving care and attention they gave Hilda over the past 12 months.

The funeral service was conducted Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m. at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, and interment followed. The family received friends two hours before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church (funeral hospitality fund), P.O. Box 138, Topping, VA 23169. Arrangements are by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda.
