Sewage storage discussed

Controling odor at nearby SCW remains concern

For the second month in a row, the Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) has tabled action on reaching an agreement with Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) on selling HRSD approximately one half acre of land on St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW) property at Locust Hill.

At the board’s April 10 meeting, MCSB discussed concerns before they will approve the sale. MCSB Chairman Elliott Reed said that one of his criteria is that HRSD must install odor control elements at the very beginning of the project.

Harmony Village MCSB member Claudia Soucek said that the project calls for a generator and that school officials want the generator located on the eastern side of the property away from SCW. “We do not want noise from generators to be distracting,”
