Middlesex County Little League (MCLL) presented its opening day ceremony Saturday at the Middlesex County Sports Complex (MCSC) in Locust Hill. Several hundred people turned out for the event and weathered a windy and cold morning.

The MCLL, which is part of the official national Little League program, joined the group 36 years ago. A forerunner of the program (Middlesex Little League) was founded in 1958 with four teams, Urbanna, Syringa, Church View and Deltaville. That program was for 8- through 12-year-old boys.

MCLL President William Glenn announced that this year the organization has 21 teams with 226 players who have signed up to play in the 2023 baseball season. The program today serves both girls and boys from ages 4 through 16 years.

“This is more participation than we have seen in recent years,” said Glenn. “We are extremely excited about this season but with more participants there is a need for more volunteers. The past and present success of our little league program is strongly tied to generations of parents who have stepped up to help the program when their children were playing.”

“We also have been blessed with a strong Middlesex County Sports Complex (MCSC) Committee,” he said. “These folks are extremely dedicated to making sure our sports complex is the best in the region…”
