Middlesex officials working to promote tourism in county

Middlesex County Economic Development Authority (EDA) director Trent Funkhouser reported at the March 22 meeting that the county was awarded the ARPA award to develop an interactive map as a tourism product. The aim is to attract visitors from out of the region and state by showcasing the area’s rich history, outdoor and water recreation activities, events and businesses.

Whitney Law of the THINKBIG marketing firm said that the plan calls for a “virtual” Blueway Trail throughout the county. The trail will allow visitors to use an “app” on their cell phones to explore and find their interests in Middlesex County.

The countywide trail could include information on marinas, restaurants, a historical road tour of the county, a kayak trail tour of Jackson Creek and other creeks, etc. Part of the funding would go towards developing an “app” that could be updated and added to in the future.

Law introduced the concept but needs help and advice from the public and organizations on establishing content for the countywide tour. A public meeting will be announced later for people to come and provide input. It is expected to be around the end of this month…
