Council OKs selling former Urbanna town hall for $250,000

On March 23, the Urbanna Town Council voted to approve selling the former town hall at 45 Cross St. for $250,000. Council’s action followed the required public hearing, at which no one spoke.

The buyers are Daniel L. and Tammy Caskie.

In February 2022, the town hall was moved to 390 Virginia St. to Waverly Commons, on Old Virginia Street just west of the town limits. The town is leasing the offices there for $40,000 a year, with plans to buy the building that also houses an office of Bay Aging.

The former town hall was in a building that is more than 100 years old and has issues, town officials have stated. The building does not comply with the American Disabilities Act, the second floor air conditioning needs to be replaced, the HVAC ductwork on the first floor is disintegrating and spewing particles…
