Reps from 30 museums to participate
Town Centre Park in Kilmarnock will come to life April 15 with pirates, bagpipers, sailors and Native Americans as the Museum Expo, sponsored by the Kilmarnock Museum, takes place.
Museums throughout the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck are expected to participate, reported Kilmarnock Museum President Carroll Lee Ashburn. More than 30 museums plan to attend.
Among the participating organizations are the Deltaville Maritime Museum, Middlesex County Museum, Urbanna Museum, Historic Christ Church and Museum, Stratford Hall, Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, Steamboat Era Museum, Morattico Waterfront Museum, Northern Neck Farm Museum, Gwynn’s Island Museum, Essex County Museum, Lancaster Virginia Historical Society, Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society, Belle Isle State Park, the Rappahannock Indian Tribe and Mattaponi Indian Reservation.
Entertainment will be provided by Deltaville-based Steamboat Road duo David Moran and Dan Theuerkauf, Kilmarnock and District Pipe Band, Etudes Dance Studio and Russell Pace with an antique calliope.
Museum Expo will begin at 10 a.m. and close by 4 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited to have fun while learning about the museums and parks of the Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck and beyond, said Ashburn.
