Girlie Jeannette Brokenborough Smith was born in Urbanna on Feb. 12, 1933.
She was one of 10 children, and the only girl, born to the late Florence and McKinley Brokenborough.
She departed this life on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the Riverside Nursing Home in Saluda.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, McKinley, Edward, Louis, Joseph, Winslow, Jerome, Devon, Walter and Howard.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Neal, Larry and Jeffrey (Audrey); and one daughter, Jackie; four grandchildren, Neal Jr. (Rashanda), Danielle Balmer (Kareem), Denise and Kevin; four great-grandchildren, Summer, Kennedi, Kadyn and Michelle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was conducted Saturday, April 1 at Antioch Baptist Church, Saluda. The interment was in Hampstead Cemetery, Remlik.
