Churches of the fifth One Community Under God program conducted Oct. 23, 2022, gathered for a presentation ceremony last week to recognize all the offerings from the program to the Cryer Center. A check in the amount of $4,450 was given to the center after the community worship to be used for adults and children of Middlesex County that were in immediate need.

You may contact the Cryer Center at 804-758-2044 if you have a need or would like to make a donation.

Donation aids Backpack Buddy

The Backpack Buddy program in Middlesex, which is benefitting from the One Community Under God donation, is sponsored by Hands Across Middlesex.

Its goal is to provide food for children facing food insecurity. Backpack Buddy is open to all children in Middlesex who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. It provides each child on Friday (or the last day of the school week) with a bag containing child-friendly food for the weekend when the schools free or reduced breakfast and lunch programs are unavailable.

When the program started, it was serving 50 to 60 children each week. This school year it has provided as many as 180 bags a week to the elementary, middle, and high school. It also provides bags to all children enrolled in the Head-Start program at the YMCA in Hartfield.

For information or to donate, email Cryer at davecryer@aol.com or mail donations to Hands Across Middlesex, P.O. Box 85, Locust Hill, VA 23092. Hands Across Middlesex is a 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax-deductible.
