Middlesex High School’s Accelerated Art program

Middlesex High School art students have been working on a variety of art projects. These students include, from left, Madasyn McQuillen, using Procreate to create a digital piece based on the theme place; Mackenzie Mendoza, using paper mache to create a human sculpture on movement; Karlie Morris, creating a cardboard abstract sculpture on movement; Geion Reed, creating a plaster basketball player sculpture on movement; Samuel Fleet, finishing a sketchbook assignment with marker; and Lucien Hampton, creating a mixed media sculpture showing the movement of water dripping from a faucet. Students have been so invested in art that Middlesex High School (MHS) has been able to create an Accelerated Art program that is geared towards students who are interested in exploring art careers or taking art classes each year of their high school career, said MHS art teacher Brindley Sears. “This class is structured to provide an opportunity for students to explore media as well as develop their own personal style,” she said.

Art III provides the opportunity for students to explore themes with choice in media and imagery. “This really leads artists to discover their artistic niche,” said Sears. “Sometimes they find a media they love and sometimes they find imagery they are drawn to.”
