The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity boys basketball team (23-4) ran away with Tidewater District and Region A honors this season.
MHS had two players make the eight member 1st All-Tidewater District basketball team and two on the All-Region A team; Charger coach Curtis Williamson was named Tidewater District coach of the year; and MHS guard Ichi Layne was named district player of the year.
Sophomore JaQuan Griffin and junior Ichi Layne were named to the first team Tidewater District and All-Region A teams and seniors Jayden Kidd and Montrell Oakley were named to the second All-Tidewater District team. Kidd was also named to the second All-Region team.
Layne was the premier guard in the district and was a key reason for the Chargers 13-0 district record. The high flying Griffin was also a key player at the forward position…
