Dolly W. Thrift

Dolly W. Thrift,  82, of Urbanna, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Thrift of New Kent, and James B. “Jim” Thrift; five grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Ashley, Audrey, Brandon, Aaron, and Emma Thrift, all of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Don Wilson and his wife, Pat W. of Newark, Calif.; three nieces, Bev Wilson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Linda Baya of Martinsville, and Karen Owens of Richmond; two nephews, Scott Wilson of Martinsville, and Kenneth W. Owens and his wife, Linda of Richmond; sister-in-law Louise T. Owens of Richmond; and brother-in-law, Richard Chenery of Richmond.

Dolly was never seen around town without a smile on her face, and was a friend to everyone she met. She was active in the community and helped to establish the Syd Thrift Athletic Complex at Middlesex High School. She enjoyed 50s music, causing mayhem with her high school friends, and telling anyone who would listen about her grandchildren. Most importantly, Dolly was a woman of unwavering faith. Finally, after spending many years on the road with her late husband, she settled down in Urbanna — her forever home.

The funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Saluda. Following the service, there will be a reception at Virginia Street Cafe, Urbanna.

Memorial gifts may be made to Virginia Special Olympics, 3212 Skipwith Road, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23294.
