Judy Lane Koger, 79, Martinsville native and longtime Richmond resident, died peacefully in the arms of Jesus, Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oneta Lewis Koger Collier Thrift and Thomas H. Koger Sr.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas Koger Jr. (Tina); sisters, Diane Collier, Deborah Thrift McCracken, Nancy Koger Taylor (Robert), and Martha Koger Kelly (Stuart); nieces; nephews; cousins; and longtime friends, Patty and Don Spragg, Frances Bailey, and John Bailey.
Judy graduated from Middlesex High School (’61), Averett College (BA, ’76), and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MRE, ’78).
Her varied vocational life included North American Assurance Society, Nationwide Homes, the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board as director of two inner-city mission centers in Roanoke, the Capital Region Airport Commission, and John Hancock Financial Services, from which she retired in 2009.
Judy served as president of Executive Women International-Richmond Chapter for 1999. She had been a member of Richmond’s Second Baptist Church since 1992. She enjoyed shared experiences with siblings and friends, was a movie buff, enjoyed traveling, and creative writing.
A celebration of life service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 in Powell Chapel at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road, Richmond with the Rev. Dr. Noel Schoonmaker officiating. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service.
