There was intense action underneath the basket for rebounds Friday as the Chargers defeated Charles City and advanced to the finals of the Tidewater District tournament played on Tuesday at Middlesex High School.
The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity basketball team (19-2, 13-0) advanced to the Tidewater District tournament finals with a 75-55 win over the Charles City Panthers this past Friday.
Although the Chargers won by 20 points, the game was closer than the score indicated. After MHS scored 22 points in the first quarter, Charles City’s defense came alive in the second quarter and held the Charges to just 8 points.
After a poor start with only 6 points in the first quarter, the Panthers scored 15 points in the second quarter and pulled to within 7 points at halftime. The score was 28-21 at half.
In the second half, Middlesex picked up the offensive pace and scored 47 points to Charles City’s 24 points.
