Take a “polar plunge” into Urbanna Creek Saturday

About 40 brave swimmers charge into the 35-degree waters of Urbanna Creek during the inaugural Urbanna Polar Plunge and Chili Cook-Off in February 2014. While it’s understandable to surmise they had bats in the belfry, one should note it was a fundraiser for local charities, plus even some frigid fun. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)

After a COVID-19 pandemic hiatus, the annual Urbanna Polar Plunge and Chili Cook-Off event is set to return to Urbanna Saturday, Feb. 11. You can participate in a chili competition and join the “polar plunge” into Urbanna Creek.

The Urbanna Business Association event runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and some of the proceeds go to support local charities. The 11:30 a.m. plunge will be at the Urbanna Town Marina (210 Oyster Road) and the chili competition will be in the parking lot of Something Different restaurant (213 Virginia St.).

To participate in the plunge, register at 10 a.m. at the marina.
