Beth Justice Stewart of Urbanna has recently joined the Southside Sentinel as a full-time advertising sales representative. The Urbanna native joins Iris “Charlie” Lassiter of Wake, who was recently promoted to advertising sales manager. The pair will assist existing customers and new businesses with advertising and marketing ideas through the Sentinel, The Rivah Visitor’s Guide, and the websites for those publications, www.SSentinel.com and www.RivahGuide.com.
Beth Justice is, as of Jan. 1, also a new member of the Urbanna Town Council, where she serves as water committee chairman. Many will know Beth as the 23-year lead vocalist of the rock band Sweet Justice. She has also served as the Urbanna Farmers Market chairman for four years, and has been the Urbanna Oyster Festival music coordinator for three years.
Beth graduated from Middlesex High School in 1981. After graduation, she moved to Richmond to attend college and 10 years later returned to Urbanna to raise her two daughters, Morgan and Hannah. They resided at the Burton house where she took care of her grandmother, Olga Burton, and her disabled daughter, Hannah, until they passed away.
A 2018 fire destroyed their historical home. “We lost everything we owned, including all of our family heirlooms, also our pets and all of our vehicles,” Beth said. “I will always be grateful for the way our community quickly raised money and offered support.
“I look forward to continuing to give back to our community doing what I can to help our small town and our much needed growth,” Beth said. “I am excited to join the ‘Dream Team’ at the Southside Sentinel in the advertising sales department.”
“Beth brings experience in marketing and managing and has a great work ethic. I am excited to see what her creativity and personality can do for the Sentinel, especially led by Charlie, whose enthusiasm for the Sentinel and for advertising is contagious!” Business Manager Kate Oliver said.
Charlie joined the Sentinel as an ad rep in April 2022 and has worked in advertising and marketing for more than three decades, including in local radio in Gloucester and the Northern Neck for more than 20 years.
“We left the area about 10 years ago with my husband’s career and traveled the midwest until resettling in the area and buying a home in Wake,” Charlie said. “I have a large family with grown children that I very much enjoy, but my favorite time is with my grandkids. I sail out of Deltaville with my husband Tim Galford and we very much enjoy the Chesapeake Bay and all it has to offer.
“I was born and raised in Virginia, so it is very nice to be back in the area and working in a career that I enjoy. Now that we have a new sales person I will be able to do what I enjoy most about my job, visiting clients and helping them grow their business.”
