The Middlesex High School (MHS) wrestling team found itself doubly bedeviled in Wednesday, Jan. 18, mat action. The Chargers fell to the Lancaster Red Devils, 42-39, as well as the Mathews Blue Devils, 68-12, in the tri-match at the John S. Clements Memorial Gymnasium in Saluda.

The Charger grapplers were paced by Cameron Byers, who is coming back strong from injury as the MHS junior has missed most of the season. Byers won both matches in the 215-pound weight class and had a pin.

Injuries have plagued the Chargers and Coach Joel Anderson’s MHS wrestling team this season. MHS lost Rowan Anderson recently. He has a dislocated arm and is out for the rest of the season.

“We have had some injuries this season,” said Anderson at the Mathews-Lancaster meet. “These are things you can not predict when you start a season.”
