Official: Odor issues unlikely at 100,000 gal. sewage site

Proposed storage facility would abut St. Clare Walker Middle School

The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) tabled action Tuesday, Jan. 10, to sell approximately one-half acre of land to Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) off the St. Clare Walker Middle School property in Locust Hill until HRSD makes an official offer to the school system.

Harmony Village school board member Claudia Soucek said last month that the school board needed more information on the sewage facility before making a decision.

Jamaica District School Board member Elliott Reed reported at the January meeting that he visited two HRSD storage/pumping facilities and does not think the sewage facility will create an odor problem or have a negative impact on St. Clare Walker Middle School. The Locust Hill facility will receive sewage from Saluda and Urbanna for storage and pumping.

Overall, school board members seemed to be in approval of selling the strip of land to HRSD. “We just need to have an official proposal before we can move forward,” said Soucek.
