With a strong fourth quarter, the Middlesex High JV Lady Charger basketball team overcame a 4-point halftime deficit and rallied for a 23-21 overtime win against visiting Mathews on Tuesday, Jan. 3. “It was a very intense game,” said MHS Coach Roy Self.
Both teams got off to a slow start. It was a 2-2 game after the first quarter. In the second quarter Mathews outscored Middlesex 7-3 and led 9-5 at the half.
Mathews led 13-10 in the fourth quarter before Middlesex battled back and outscored them 11-8 to knot the score at 21-21 at the end of regulation. In overtime Middlesex hit a couple of baskets for 4 points and held Mathews to 2 points for a 23-21 win. “We played well on defense and stole the ball to hang on for the win,” said Self.
