Broad Creek last dredged a decade ago

Every decade or so, Broad and Jackson creeks in Deltaville have to be dredged and are the highest maintenance creeks in Middlesex County.

The creeks also have some of the highest real estate values along the shores and Broad Creek has by far more commercial waterfront property and businesses than any other creek in the county.

At the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) meeting in December, Kendall Webre of Norton’s Yacht Sales and Marine Services in Deltaville alerted supervisors that it has been 10 years since Broad Creek had been dredged and it is now in need of dredging.

She said Middlesex County applied for a grant for design, planning and permitting for the dredge project through the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). It has been approved for $336,000 with a match of $144,000 for Middlesex County to cover, she said.
