Marian Elizabeth Walter, 104, of Topping, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, in her home amongst family.
Marian was born on Aug. 3, 1918, in Alexandria, to Arthur and Elizabeth Crouch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Walter; three brothers, Haywood Crouch, Woodrow Crouch, Arthur Crouch; and three sisters, Levenia Howard, Virginia M. Schumann and Grace Barr.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Ann R. Walter; and three daughters, Mary F. Griffin (Lloyd), Sharon R. Sturgill and Sonya E. Bellefeuille. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Becky Pierson, Lori and Kenneth Adams, Robert and LeeAnn Pierson, James Harreld, Sophia and Dwayne Scruggs, Anita and Scott Smith, Christina and David Hamilton, Carrie Harreld, Clint Sturgill and Josette and David Schulte; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Marian retired in 1973 from the Department of the Navy, as a supervisory budget analyst. She lived her life loving the outdoors and in her home on the Meachums Creek. She had many talents such as carpentry, crocheting, and gardening. During her down time, she enjoyed reading.
Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 5 at Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church, 1970 Long Cornor Road, Mount Airy, Md., from 1 p.m. until the funeral service starts at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Howard Chapel Cemetery, Long Cornor. The Rev. Phillip Ayres will officiate.
