Helen Holmes Roark, 88, of Jamaica, was born in Nathalie on Nov. 30, 1934.
She was surrounded by her family when she went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, L.F. Roark Jr.; daughter, Estelle Roark; parents, Henry and Ella Hudson; two brothers, Charlie and Deroy; one sister, Marjorie; and a grandson, Snoopy.
She is survived by her children, Joyce Cannon (Albert), Charlie Roark (Diane), June Johnson (Glenn); grandchildren, Kerri, Eddie, Keith, Helen Marie, Robin Wayne, Wendy, Shelley, Ryan, Charmin; 16 great-grandchildren (with one more coming in 2023); and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Affectionately known to many as “Granny Rosebud,” she always welcomed everyone with a hug in her home. She was a stellar cook, gardener and loved being on the water. Whether it was fishing, having a crab picking with the family on the bank, working in her garden, tending to her beautiful flowers are feeding the many hummingbirds that knew their way back year after year, she did it all with loads of love.
She was a member of Glebe Landing Baptist Church and served the Lord in many ways. She loved and was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9 at Glebe Landing Baptist Church, 1498 Glebe Landing Road, Laneview.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband, L.F. Roark Jr., at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the B.W. White Funeral Home in Aylett.
