Lois Jean Brooks, 67, of Urbanna, daughter of the late Ray L. Burch Sr. and Betty Jean Burch, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Lois Jean lit up any room she entered and lived a life dedicated to God. She filled her home and life with warmth and kindness. Shortly after the birth of her first son, Lois stepped down from over a decade of dispatching with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office to accept the role of Brooks family homemaker.
She was a dedicated member of Urbanna United Methodist Church where she was involved in the adult and bell choir, occasionally playing the piano and organ, and directing the children’s choir for over 20 years. Lois Jean was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department of Urbanna, where she started helping her mother as a child. She was dedicated to her community where she was chair of the annual Urbanna Hometown Christmas Parade for 27 years and Urbanna Family Fun Day for over 10 years.
She took great pride in knowing she helped others learn to serve including her own children. Lois had a passion for event planning to include floral arranging. She also took great satisfaction from cooking for her family, friends, and the less fortunate. In the last days of her life on earth she prepared for her most favorite time of the year, Christmas. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her last hours on earth were spent listening to Christmas music and wrapping gifts for family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tony Brooks; sons, Daniel Brooks (Becca), Brent Brooks (Sarah); brother, Ray L. Burch Jr. (Minnie) and her grandchildren, Logan, Carlee, Philip, and Penelope.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am at the funeral home on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Interment will follow at Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna.
