Special to the Sentinel –
Ed Homer is a legend in the Christchurch School (CCS) family. His football teams have qualified for state playoffs 10 times and have won two VISAA Division II State Championships. He is a member of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Hall of Fame, and he coached in the 2007-2008 Under Armour All-American game.
More than 50 of Coach Homer’s players have gone on to play in college, and Seahorses have received scholarship offers from a number of schools including Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Harvard University, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, University of Iowa, Emory and Henry, Hampton University and North Carolina State.
What is most important about the work Homer does is how he impacts CCS students. He is a coach who leads with heart and soul. He takes youth from zero to amazing and takes care of every need in between. He has been the heart of the Christchurch football program for 30 years.
Homer has decided to hang up his whistle and retire as the head football coach, CCS announced last week. He and his wife, Jennifer Homer, will continue as valued members of the Christchurch community, teaching and living “on dorm.” “The Homers are TRUE BLUE!” said a CCS news release.
CCS plans to celebrate Coach Homer’s football coaching career in the spring and details will be forthcoming.
