A larger building for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been on the Middlesex Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) since 2010. After 13 years, the sheriff’s office has finally made it to the top of the proposed CIP for 2023-2027, which will be the subject of a public hearing by the Middlesex Planning Commission tonight, Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse in Saluda.
The CIP lists the larger sheriff’s office as “urgent” and estimates the renovation cost at $4.2 million, with $75,000 funded through grants.
Sewer
The second priority on the proposed CIP is building wastewater collection systems, to be paid for by the county. They are listed in the CIP as “urgent-necessary.”
These Deltaville projects total $14 million. The total projected costs for collection systems is $25.5 million, according to the CIP.
Schools
Number four on the CIP is renovating Middlesex High School, which comes with a price estimated of $45 million and is listed as “urgent.”
The fifth priority is Middlesex Elementary School “roof restoration,” at $800,000, is listed as “necessary.”
