A house fire on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 2:42 a.m. totally destroyed a rental house at 6495 General Puller Highway (Route 33) at Locust Hill, near St. Clare Walker Middle School.

Hartfield Assistant Fire Chief Kevin McNamee reported that there was heavy fire coming from the roofline of the vacant house when firefighters and trucks arrived on the scene.

McNamee said the house is a rental house and was between renters, which eliminated any loss of life and furniture. “The house was a total loss,” said McNamee. “We were just fortunate no one was living in the house at the time.”

The fire is under investigation by state fire officials as McNamee was unsure of the cause of the fire. “It did start in the back of the house near the kitchen…”
