The Rotary Club of Mathews annual Rockfish Tournament is set for the second weekend in December. The two-day tournament is scheduled for Dec. 10 and 11 at Morningstar Marinas. There will be a captain’s dinner and registration on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Mathews Ruritan Club from 5-8 p.m.

Cash prizes of $4,000 are guaranteed. There is a $175 boat entry fee with unlimited anglers. This year’s tournament is offering a first prize of $2,000, second is $1,000 and third is $700. Additional prizes of $100 will be awarded to the one senior, one lady and one youth (15) with the heaviest fish. Weigh-in will be held at Morningstar Marinas from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with awards given on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used for area projects and high school scholarships. This is one of Mathews Rotary Club’s biggest fundraisers in addition to the annual oyster roast, Party with a Purpose event and chili cook off. The Mathews Rotary Club supports many area programs, such as scholarship programs for high school graduates, Nelda’s Closet, Hands Across Mathews, the Boys and Girls Club, as well as other organizations.
