As an effort to expand broadband to under-served areas of Middlesex County, utility poles are presently being inspected and measured for future installation of lines.
The project is with All Points Broadband (APB) of Richmond, Dominion Energy and Middlesex Broadband Authority (MBA). APB is on track to provide broadband access to approximately 1,000 locations that are currently not being served in the county.
Many of these areas lie within the “broadband desert” located in the western end of the county in portions of Jamaica and Saluda districts, said Kevin Gentry, executive director of MBA.
“APB is working with Davey Resource Group and Biari to survey the poles,” said Gentry. “So far, 1,156 poles have been reviewed for space requirements. The engineers will be responsible for things like route review which traces the route between poles.
“They will also look at other factors such as line sag in between poles,” said Gentry “We expect last mile construction to begin in earnest next year…”
