At least two of the six Northern Neck District schools will not have varsity girls basketball teams for the 2022-2023 season. Both Lancaster and Northumberland high schools announced last month they will not have varsity teams this year.
According to LHS Athletic Director Dave Zeiler, only 12 girls in grades eight through 10 tried out for the team. “After attempting to recruit more girls to play basketball,” said Zeiler, “the decision was made to cancel.
