The former Urbanna Town Hall at 45 Cross St. is for sale. At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Urbanna Town Council voted to put the 100-plus year old building on the market.
Town staff contacted all three real estate firms in Urbanna before deciding to list the building with Price Properties.
The town has received an appraisal of $367,000 for the two-story cement block building.
Earlier this year, council moved the town hall from the building to 390 Virginia St. in the Waverly Commons, just west of the town limits. The town council approved a lease for this renovated building for up to two years in November 2021 at an annual cost of about $40,000.
In May, Councilor Steve Hollberg said the town plans to sell the old town hall, and use that money to buy the entire building where the current town hall is located. Then the town can rent the front portion of the building to finance the mortgage. It is occupied by Bay Aging. With the rent income the town should break even, he explained.
