Record catfish caught in Rappahannock River

The Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is applauding two gentlemen for harvesting two record catfish in the commonwealth. Virginia offers excellent, extremely diverse angling opportunities with more than 176,000 acres of public lakes and 27,300 miles of fishable streams.

New state record archery blue catfish

Josh Bailey, from Waldorf, Md., arrowed an almost 69-pound blue catfish from the Rappahannock River. The fish measured 3 feet, 11 inches and had a girth of 35 inches.

New state record archery flathead catfish

Richard Hayden Jr., from Bracey, arrowed a 48-pound flathead catfish from Belmont Bay. The fish measured 3 feet 11 inches and had a girth of 28.5 inches.

Both fish were certified and recognized as current Virginia Archery State Records.
